Regular readers will know I was spirited off to Las Vegas at the beginning of January to attend my eighth or ninth Winter Consumer Electronics Show. Quite a statement to even be there in these tough times for a website as specialized as us.Over the last fifteen years or so I have managed to get along to quite a few though. In the early days there was simply enough cash floating around for some distributors to think it was a Good Thing for me to get there and the guys at ProPlus Sound and Matthew Robins of then Icetronic both helped out. Also, Pioneer took me along to see the birth of OEL, now called OLED and Kenwood have taken me too.In the latter years, Blaupunkt ran a posh trip taking Snapper Spike and two Fast Car competition prize winners and we got so much work out of it (due to professional quality pictures) that we then started asking different outfits to help us both get there after that. In return for features in Fast Car, they would chip in and the lion would lie down with the lamb.

Gregory Dailey, a United States Airforce Veteran from Maryland, describes why he chose to attend Installer Institute. "From the start, my enrollment process was easy and [they] answered every question I had. They told me everything I needed to do for my veteran benefits. Having housing included takes the stress out of it too. I took the comprehensive course and the extra time you get to practice what you learn helps. Every instructor is really hands-on with the students and asks you questions to help you develop skills for what you're wanting to do.

Many custom car installers start out working in their own garage for fun on the weekends after work. Not everyone knows from the start that this is the type of career path they want - they stumble into it. Alex Sinclair’s story is no different. After going through job after job with no excitement in his work, Alex Sinclair followed his mother’s advice to turn his car hobby into a career. After trying other lines of work, nothing held Sinclair’s attention or interest. All of his free time was spent working on cars, a hobby that he truly enjoyed. It was time to make an investment in his future towards a career he knew could hold his interest. Sinclair enrolled in the car audio training program at the Installer Institute in Holly Hill, FL. While it was a long way from California, accommodations within walking distance of the campus were included in the tuition and he could complete the initial program in just a few weeks.
